LEwes Extinction Rebellion LOCAL group
XR Lewes is one of an international network of Extinction Rebellion Local Groups. Most of our members come from Lewes, Newhaven, Seaford, and the surrounding villages in East Sussex. We are part of the XR South-East region
General meetings coordinate the activities of XR Lewes and are currently being held every three weeks via Zoom. The date of the next meeting will be on the website events calendar. Links to join the zoom and agendas are sent out by email. If you want to be included on our mailing list, please email xrlewes @ gmail.com.
Working Groups include Admin and Communications, Creatives, Education and Outreach, Talks and Training, Regeneration, and Reading Groups. Further details and contact emails for the working groups can be accessed via our get involved page.
Action and Campaign Groups are formed to plan and support specific actions and campaigns. Many of these involve working collaboratively with other groups environmental groups. Current groups are the Climate Emergency Centres in Lewes and Seaford, Barclays, Westminster Rebellion and the Climate and Ecological Emergency Bill. Further details can be accessed via our get involved page.We are also actively supporting Divest East Sussex (https://divesteastsussex.wordpress.com/), which is campaigning to get East Sussex Pension Fund to divest from fossil fuels and the Stop HS2 (https://www.hs2.org.uk/), which is campaigning to stop the construction of the high speed rail line between London and Birmingham destroying precious wildlife habitats.
Affinity Groups perform a networking function. They provide an opportunity for people to meet informally. They are intended to be small groups of 8-12 people. We currently have three which are loosely organised by geographical area – Seaford, Nevill and the rest of Lewes. The groups are autonomous and can initiate the actions they want in the name of XR as long as they adhere to XR Principles and Values. If you’d like to be part of an affinity group, please ask at General Meeting or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
New Members: We suggest new members attend an informal lunchtime meeting. These meetings provide an opportunity to chat with people and find out what is going on. They have no set agenda. The next meeting will be on the events calendar.
