Affinity Group Formation Workshop

11th July 2020 @ 10:00 am to 1:00 pm

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be in an Affinity Group? Since the beginning of XR, we have carried out some amazing actions that have got us into the global media and changed the debate, and so many of these had Affinity Groups at the core. We’re not saying that they are the most important thing in the world, or that you have to be in one to be a part of XR, but we are saying that they have a crucial part within our movement, and we want everyone to experience the benefits of being in one.

The Affinity Group Support Network (AGSN), who are a regionally-based group across the UK, have brought you a brand new AG Formation Session that can be done online, in the comfort of your own home. Join us for 3 hours of interactive fun, where we will carry out exercises in the form of spectrum lines to determine who might be best suited in each group. You will then get a chance to get to know each other better and work with one another to answer some XR trivia. At the end of the session you will have the choice to join your new Affinity Group, or if you’d prefer you can come back for another session to find another group – there is no pressure to join one at any point, it’s still a fun experience.

Everyone is welcome to these sessions, whether you are already in an AG or not, whether you’re from Newcastle or Lewes – we want you all to see how amazing AGs can be, and to feel the benefits for yourselves. We’d love to see you there, so we can spread the AG love even further!

If you’re new to XR, we’d recommend coming along to our session just to meet new people, and then going to an online Discussion of Nonviolence and Civil Disobedience where you will learn more about the theories behind XR and its strategy (or, if you’ve already been to one of them, then pop along to one of our Action Design trainings to get you in-the-know about designing some radical new actions)

If you want to read up a bit more on Affinity Groups and their history, then head here.
