Discussion of Nonviolence and Civil Disobedience

6th June 2020 @ 10:30 am to 12:30 pm

Where does XR’s strategy come from? Why do we use nonviolence? And what is the difference between Civil Disobedience and Direct Action?

Join us for an in-depth discussion on some of XR’s key aspects, where we will discuss the history of nonviolence, civil disobedience, and direct action, and take a look into injustice and oppression and how that links to the institution of the police. The discussion will take the format of the facilitators speaking, then allow the participants to delve into, and to hear others’ opinions on these issues.

Everyone is welcome, whether you’re new to XR and civil disobedience or whether you’re a seasoned activist. If you would like to read up beforehand about NonViolent Direct Action (NVDA) then sign up to the Rebellion Academy NVDA module here.

If you’re new to XR, we’d recommend coming along to our session just to meet new people, and then going to an online AG Formation Session where you can form your own Affinity Group (or, if you’ve already been to one of them, then pop along to one of our Action Design trainings to get you in-the-know about designing some radical new actions)
